New Jersey is already considered a leader when it comes to combating food insecurity and hunger, but two Democratic lawmakers want it to go further and create a new pipeline for grocers to contribute their excess food to pantries and other relief facilities.

NJ SEED: The proposed legislation would mandate what the retail food industry already does. NJ’s supermarkets generously donate to the state’s Food Banks, Partners in Caring, Checkout Hunger and other local programs not only to reduce food waste, but also to support efforts to address food insecurity.
