Trump Administration to Undo Standards on ‘Forever Chemicals’ in Drinking Water

The Trump administration on Wednesday (5/14) announced plans to rescind and postpone rules limiting “forever chemicals” in drinking water that were enacted under the Biden administration and designed to prevent millions of people from exposure to these persistent and dangerous contaminants.

NJ SEED: As NJ has discovered, it is extremely difficult and expensive to remove the “forever chemicals” from drinking water. The previous administration took the unusual step of putting limits on unregulated chemicals. Some of the chemicals are suspected to be linked to cancer and a list of other problems. Perhaps, in revising the rule, more science can be applied and additional remedies used to ease the cost to consumers while improving drinking water quality.
