Port Authority Adopts $45 Billion Plan

The Port Authority today (12/18) adopted a $45 billion plan for capital improvements at its crossings, airports and PATH system over the next decade, funded in part by higher tolls and other fees.
o As of Jan. 4, tolls at the bi-state agency’s bridges and tunnels will increase by some 3%, per a multi-year inflation schedule, with an additional 25 cents for passenger vehiclese
o In March, an additional airport fee on Uber and other rideshare services bill begin a multi-year phase-in that will ultimately reach $5 per ride.
o Cabs will pay a 25-cent fee.
o In May, fares for PATH riders will rise by 25 cents a trip to $3.25, with additional 25-cent hikes planned each year through 2029, to $4.
o The planned capital improvements include a remade Terminal B and AirTrain system at Newark Airport, funding for a new midtown bus terminal and the PA’s $2.7 billion share of the Gateway project costs.
