NJ Needs ‘Steep Ramp-Up’ to Reach Clean-Energy Targets

New Jersey is making some progress toward cutting carbon emissions and switching to a clean-energy economy, but there is still much more to do — especially around heat pumps and electric vehicles — if the state is to hit the Murphy administration’s ambitious clean-energy targets.

NJ SEED: The BPU has begun the process of revising the state’s Energy Master Plan but does not expect it to be made public until late in the year – after the election. Supporters point to progress that has already been made. Critics point out the “electrification” of the state will lead to greatly increased costs to ratepayers. As was noted by the late Richard Dewling when he was DEP Commissioner, eliminating carbon emissions in the state will not substantially improve NJ’s air quality. It will, however, improve the air quality in Connecticut.
