NJ Minimum Wage Goes up Jan. 1 to $15.49. But Not Everyone Gets the Same Increase

New Jersey’s minimum wage is going up by 36 cents to $15.49 an hour on Jan. 1, 2025, the latest of the scheduled hikes that Gov. Phil Murphy, a Democrat, signed into law in early 2019. 


The state’s minimum wage was $8.60 when Murphy took office. He campaigned on increasing the wage to $15 an hour, a big-ticket item among progressives at the time.

NJ SEED: The $15 minimum wage signed into law in 2019 would, due to five years of inflation, require nearly $19 today. Some advocates have begun calling for a $20 minimum.
