NJ Lawmakers Rush to Get $61 Billion in Spending Signed into Law

Majority Democratic lawmakers on Tuesday sent Gov. Mikie Sherrill a nearly $61 billion annual budget plus another measure for $360 million in new spending structured so it will not count toward the fiscal year 2027 total.

NJ SEED: As it seems always to be in New Jersey, June 30 is a long day. The legislature passes a “balanced” budget and continues in session late into the night, rushing to pass bills before the summer recess. Although most of the actors take it seriously, it seems to be little more than an annual Kabuki dance.
