Next Steps in Passaic River Cleanup Includes Sampling and ‘In-River’ Construction

Federal prosecutors proposed $125 million in new funding for “support facilities” along the Passaic River as the next steps in an arduous and complex legal campaign to clean up dangerous chemical pollution in the river.

Attorneys representing the Environmental Protection Agency made the proposal in a New Jersey federal court on Thursday (9/10), the latest legal action in a decades-long slog to clean up the river, one of the nation’s most polluted.
