NJ Transit announced a sweeping modernization of its fare collection system this week, introducing new digital payment options, fare gates and updated onboard equipment designed to make travel faster, safer and more convenient for customers.

NJ SEED: Although not disclosed in the press release, the cost of fare thievery on NJ Transit must be substantial. Updated systems to monitor and collect fares will spare law abiding commuters and other taxpayers from having to pick up the cost of cheaters.
