Governor Sherrill Signs Legislation Giving New Jerseyans Cleaner, More Affordable Energy at Their Fingertips

Governor Mikie Sherrill today (9/1) signed the Garden State Balcony Solar Act (S2368/A4836), removing unnecessary red tape that will allow New Jerseyans to purchase and use portable, plug-in solar panels to generate their own clean energy and lower their electricity costs.

NJ SEED: The new law is being heralded as expanding access to portable plug-in solar panels as a means of lowering electric costs for renters and apartment dwellers. It also prohibits municipalities from requiring permits for using the devices. Critics warn that the wattage limits are low and will not result in significant savings.
