Gateway Tunnel Construction to Stop as Trump Withholds Funds

Construction of an economically vital rail tunnel under the Hudson River between New Jersey and Manhattan will soon stop because the Trump administration is withholding federal funding. 

The Gateway Development Commission, a bistate agency overseeing the $16 billion project, detailed the consequences of the high-stakes funding stalemate during a public meeting Tuesday in lower Manhattan.

NJ SEED: The Gateway tunnel is a project important to the economy not just of New Jersey and New York but to the entire northeast region. One might have hoped that a new administration in Trenton would have offered the opportunity to appeal to the White House and the Department of Transportation on a nonpolitical basis. Regrettably, that appears not to have happened.
