Why Are These Towns Suing Murphy Over Affordable Housing?

Thirteen towns are suing Gov. Phil Murphy and his administration, calling on him to bring back the Council on Affordable Housing and give them decision-making power on towns’ affordable housing. They claim he is in violation of the Fair Housing Act and residents are left at the mercy of overburdened courts.


NJ SEED: New Jersey’s decades-long and frequently contentious struggle over affordable housing is once again in the headlines. The suit by several mayors to bring back the Council on Affordable Housing is not surprising considering the cost, backlog and delays that have occurred as a result of the Council’s demise.
