When Phil Murphy Is Out of State, Here Is the Line of Succession for Acting Governor

With the death of Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver on Tuesday, New Jersey's line of succession has a gap.
Still, unlike in some states, the line is considerably long.
Read More: Click Here NJ SEED: The office of Lt. Governor was recently added in New Jersey when voters approved amending the state constitution in 2006. Rather than create and fund a separate office, one with limited authority, the amended constitution requires that the Lt. Gov. simultaneously hold another cabinet level position other than attorney general. With certain restriction, the governor may appoint a successor. The president of the senate serves as Acting Lt. Gov. until a successor is chosen.
