Gov. Phil Murphy will call for an election to fill the 10th Congressional District seat left vacant by the death of Rep. Donald Payne Jr.
Murphy issued a writ of election that directs a primary election be held on July 16 and a special general election to follow on Sept. 18, with the new member likely taking office shortly afterward.

NJ SEED: A special election to fill the vacant 10th Congressional District seat will be held on September 18, five months after the death of Representative Payne. It is good for the citizens of the 10th that the seat will be filled before the next general election, but as noted last week, there could be a more expeditious means to fill House vacancies when they occur in the NJ delegation.
