NJ Transit Engineer Strike Still Looms as Judge Declines Request for Injunction

A possible strike by New Jersey Transit engineers is still looming after a federal judge blocked the transit agency’s request for an injunction to stop engineers from walking off the job. The 500 members of the NJ Transit Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen are currently voting on whether to authorize a strike, with a voting deadline of Aug. 31. But the judge ordered the union to tell its members to show up for work on Labor Day, Sept. 4.

NJ SEED: Interesting to note in light of the recently announced Outstanding Transportation System award that the system is faced with a crippling strike by engineers. It is to be hoped that good faith negotiations on both sides will lead to an amicable strike-avoiding settlement.
