Nine towns are suing the state over a new law they say would unfairly force them to plan and build housing units for people of moderate and low income. As Brenda Flanagan reports, the lawsuit also alleges the new law’s regulations, formulas and deadlines for affordable housing obligations are fundamentally flawed.

NJ SEED: There is no question NJ needs more housing inventory priced so more buyers can afford to purchase a home. However, statewide mandates that do not adequately address differences among municipalities will inevitably cause problems. Mandating that all municipalities address affordable housing in the same way is like mandating equity – sounds good but is impossible to achieve.
