NJ Sues Dow, Others Over Toxic Pollution of Water

March 24, 2023 | pbs.org

New Jersey announced a lawsuit this week against the Dow Chemical Company and other companies for widespread contamination of drinking water by a potentially cancer-causing chemical. The state is accusing the companies of manufacturing, selling and promoting products containing 1,4-dioxane for decades in New Jersey, despite knowing the chemical was harmful and would pollute drinking water supplies.

NJ SEED: Holding those whose actions have caused pollution of the environment is established law. Filing suits against companies who discharged chemicals that are “potentially” cancer-causing and a “likely” human carcinogen, might be considered an overreach. However, efforts to make NJ’s drinking water absolutely safe must continue to be an imperative.
